FINDING YOUR INSPIRATION

I firmly believe there are two things that motivate people, one being inspiration and the other being desperation. There are times when people are in pain or they’re hurting so much that they’re forced to do something out of desperation. By the same token, there are people who realize that change is often instigated by inspiration.

If you’re struggling to find inspiration in your life, then I urge you not to give up. Seize the moment and go out and find it. I even find the smallest thing can give me inspiration. I get my inspiration in the strangest of places. I might see a child playing, overhear a conversation at the supermarket, or it can be as simple as a line from a movie or TV show, which just resonates and acts as a catalyst to inspire me to take action. For me, this often happens when I was just day dreaming, you know those times when you’re not really paying attention to anything in particular. You never know when inspiration is going to come knocking at your door!

Try to be around people who inspire you, challenge you, and who encourage you to step out of your comfort zone. After all, these people are likely to give you the strength and courage to reach further than you've attempted to reach before, and to aspire to be more than you thought possible. You really notice this when you work with like-minded people, as it’s so much easier to blend and resonate with each other, not just mentally or intellectually, but with your heart and soul. When you’re inspired, it fills you with a sense of confidence and purpose. Inspiration is a powerful force, and provides a natural source of energy that will motivate you to push yourself further. These are the times when a goal or a desire is actually within your reach.

In contrast, if you’ve been suffering from boredom, feeling listless and tired, or just not caring about anything or anyone, then it’s more than likely that you’re feeling a sense of desperation to change something in your life. Inspiration can be that catalyst for change. First and foremost, try to find something that inspires you. Be daring, challenge yourself, you may want to even try something new, something scary that pushes you outside your comfort zone. It could even be something you always wanted to try, but never had the nerve or the time to do.

Inspiration is not solely linked to success. Two years ago, I took motorcycle-driving lessons and although I didn’t pass, it gave me a feeling of accomplishment, to be able to say: “I did that!” I’d always wanted to drive a motorcycle and had romantic visions of racing around the countryside, and even though I failed the test, at least I tried.

By comparison, years earlier I took scuba diving lessons, something I’d always wanted to do. Yes, this time I did get my certificate, and that day will remain in my heart and soul for the rest of my life. I remember the invigorating feeling as I nervously strapped on my air tanks and took my first plunge into the ocean, and was able to marvel at the spectacular underwater world that God created. I often draw on this memory as inspiration, and it’s helped me through some tough times when I feel I needed that extra boost.

Find what motivates you whether its, music, dancing, singing, drawing, or even getting back to nature. No matter what it is, you’ll know it when you find it! Give yourself the opportunity to change, to make your life better, to make even more of who you really are. When you feel inspiration filling you with positive energy, you’ll realize that you can in fact change. When I’m nervous about doing something, I just tell myself “I can do this!” Everyone is different. Focus on what you love doing and before long, your soul will start to sing out and help you reach your full potential.

Let inspiration fill your soul and allow it to motivate you – it’s a lot more satisfying than desperation.
